Description

Qualitative methods: Interviews and Focus Groups

Dr Jane Callaghan

Jane Callaghan will look in depth at both interviewing participants and using focus groups.

Interviewing is often described as the primary way of generating material for qualitative research. In this workshop we will explore the methods used in good qualitative interviewing, and will consider some of the theoretical issues that researchers need to take into account when conducting qualitative interviews.

Then we will consider the specific features of focus groups, looking at both practical and theoretical issues in conducting focus group research. We will consider how to set up focus groups, how to manage them, and how to analyse data from them.

This workshop is open to any student currently registered on a research degree programme at the University of Northampton. Further information is available from Simone Apel (simone.apel@northampton.ac.uk; 01604 893418).
